I haven't been up to much that is interesting lately. Literally work, work and more work. Trying to sprinkle in some consistent working out and cooking as much as possible.

My sis however, has been a busy little bee! I don't have much to share so I will share/brag on her a little bit! She got a sewing machine and has been going at it making sweet little things for my niece, Lilley.

These are just her first projects with clearance fabric that she practiced on...

As sad as it is to come back from vacation, sometimes there is nothing sweeter than being in your own home.

Such a typical Sunday it has been. True to form with the bro-in-laws are in town we had a family brunch.

Husby worked in the yard trimming back our atrocious palm trees and worked hard trying to finish up tiling our master bath.

I worked on finalizing details for Miss Emmie (my baby sis)'s 13th birthday party, the dreaded [however unavoidable] unpacking that follows vacation and lastly preparing a Caribbean style ~~dinner~~ failure [as it seems].

Layover on the way home. Perfect time to update my outfits from the trip. I actually did well on this trip and only packed what I needed to get by. Unheard of for me.

I can't wait to post some trip photos. We had a really great trip. Lots of great snorkeling, dining, family time and shopping. (have to fit the shopping in there somewhere) I'll get to all of that in a different post. For now, outfits!

Instant love interior design

When browsing different interior design blogs, do you ever come across a photo that you immediately fall in love with?

I do sometimes and I immediately save the image into a file on my desktop. It's crazy to look through them and try and put together a cohesive styling. I really do this in hopes of helping myself identify my personal style. The funny thing is, when you look through my file, there are SO many different looks that I fear I would never be able to fit into one home.

I am certain we will have to have a very large house with plenty of rooms so I can style each one differently. Husby is going to cringe when he reads this but, truth is truth. It's the only thing that makes sense. Right?

Anyway, getting to the point of this post. I had one of my before spoken epiphanies this morning when browsing my blog reader.

I am making this post while sitting on the back patio of our condo in the Caymans. (I'm waiting for the crew to be ready to spend the day out at the beach)

The first time I ever came to Grand Cayman was Summer 2006. We were celebrating the marriage of my sister and her husband.

Then last year I begged my husband for us to go for spring break.

You can see he didn't have too hard of a time with this request...

And here we are this year, 2010, almost half way through our trip. So sad. People always ask me, "Why don't you try somewhere different?" or "Doesn't it get old always going back to the same place?" It's so tough because I am already planning that we HAVE to come back and we haven't even left yet? Will we ever really make it anywhere else tropical?

Here we are this year. My third trip and I FINALLY touched a sting ray!!

And Grant gave one a kiss...

Anyway, I know I am behind on blogging. Leading up to trips I get so pre-occupied with getting things together.

As soon as we get back I will have LOTS of Cayman outfits to post and party details for a very special birthday party I am planning for my baby sister who is turning 13!

It's a long time coming but, we have officially begun working on the master bath. Just one of those things that we knew was going to be a large project and put off until we knew we had the time to devote to it. So, watch out for that. Happy Sunday.

Bedroom Re-design

I have been dying to re-do our bedroom for so long! I was really

just waiting for a few things to come together (the bench from last week, a dresser to paint red and the finding the right red paint color)

If you were in Austin this weekend, then you know the weather was JUST right for an outdoor project. And, that is exactly where I spent my time from the time I woke up yesterday until just now...

My before shot is pretty dull which I guess really describes the room before...

And the final project!

Painted the bed and nightstand white and added new pinstripe sheets {target} to add a masculine touch...

Added some life to the room with a pair of orchids...

And, last but not least: My red dresser! It isn't styled just yet. I just set random stuff on top...

Unfortunately, the sun had pretty much gone down by the time I was able to take photos so you can't see the true color of the dresser but, I was just so anxious to post the final project! I will add more when I style it a bit better!

Restoration: Hit the bench

For months I have been on the hunt for the perfect herringbone fabric to refinish this bench in. On Saturday the hubs and I spent the day leisurely looking for the few things that are on our list for around the house. Didn't expect to find much, and of course, we found everything we were looking for!

Easy Breezy: CrockPot Santa Fe Chicken

Obviously, I am a sucker for easy recipes. With as busy as our schedule can be at times, it's nice to have go-to recipes that are homemade, healthy and not time-consuming.

Found an awesome recipe this week on a new blog I found and follow that you are going to want to follow too! Linked here.

I love my crock pot. Sundays are usually the best day for me to make one or two recipes to prepare for the week. The best thing for out routine is to freeze what I make on Sunday in multiple Le Crueset dutch ovens. When I get home from the gym, I just slide it in the oven on 400 degrees for one hour and viola! After a long day of work/hard gym workout I do not want to cook dinner. ***You want to put the dutch oven in the oven right when you start it so it heats up with the oven. Especially, if you are using a ceramic piece, so that it doesn't shatter.***

Recipe:

Crock Pot Santa Fe Chicken
Slow cooked shredded chicken with corn, tomatoes and black beans. Prepare the night before and turn your crock pot on in the morning for an easy weeknight meal. Low fat and low in points. Serve over rice with chopped scallions, fresh cilantro, fat free sour cream and reduced fat cheddar.
Gina's Weight Watcher Recipes
Servings: 8 servings • Size: 9.85 oz • Prep Time: 5 minutes • Points: 4.25 ww points

24 oz (1 1/2) lbs chicken breast
14.4 oz can diced tomatoes with mild green chilies
15 oz can black beans
8 oz frozen corn
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
14.4 oz can fat free chicken broth
3 scallions, chopped
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp cayenne pepper (to taste)
salt to taste

Combine chicken broth, beans, corn, tomatoes, cilantro, scallions, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, cayenne pepper and salt in the crock pot. Season chicken breast with salt and lay on top.Cook on low for 10 hours or on high for 6 hours. Half hour before serving, remove chicken andshred. Return chicken to slow cooker and stir in. Adjust salt and seasoning. Serve over rice. (extra points)

We had a great end to our 2009 while celebrating the wedding of my BIL, Logan. Wedding location was Dallas so we decided to make a mini-vacay out of it.

High-Points: Low-key NYE cele at the Four Seasons, Bridal luncheon complete with homemade crepes. [amaze], Shopping at NorthPark Mall. My favorite. [ever], Nightlife at Ghost bar and West Village, and of course [the reason we were there], the celebration of the wedding of Logan and Becca.

I am sometimes at a loss for what to blog... Right now... Not the case.

Food: Easy Breezy #2

The next recipe is a simple treat you might even want to use for New Years Day.

Easy Caramel Pecan Crunches.

Ingredients:

Small pretzels. I use Snyders Snaps.

Rolo Candies:

Pecan Halves:

Line a baking sheet with foil. Line the sheet with pretzels. Place a Rolo candy on top of each one.

Bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes.

Remove from oven and press pecan into center before cooling.

Leave out to cool for 10-15 minutes.

Enjoy!

I tried a couple new "recipes" (they can hardly be called this due to their ease) over my vacation and thought I would share...

Christmas celebration #5 was complete with a mexican feast. I elected to prepare the spanish rice knowing that I had my mom's easy breezy recipe at my disposal. *I bolded the instructions that are crucial

Easy Breezy Spanish Rice:

Brown 2 cups rice in enough oil to cover the bottom of pan. I use basmati rice.
Once rice is golden, (don’t leave the stove or it will burn), add small can (1 cup) of tomato sauce plus 4 cups of water.
Add a handful of sliced baby carrots.
Add 2 tbsp of Spanish Rice Seasoning (Fiesta Brand)
Bring to boil, stirring often.
Lower heat to simmer, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Do not lift the lid.
Turn heat off after 20 minutes and let rice stand with cover in place for 3-5 minutes.
Fluff rice and eat.

Our "W" Christmas

Such an amazing holiday season. The days were so packed from the minute we went on holiday vacation. Today Grant and I were able to spend the whole day together with no specific plans in mind. Some days it's so nice not to have an agenda or schedule.

Our day in a nutshell: Oatmeal (obsession) and french press coffee Galaxy Cafe, Church, leisurely drive through some of our favorite downtown neighborhoods, Sprouts farmers market run, some good old fashioned re-organization around the house and our first fire in the fireplace. About time.

I was homeschooled for junior high and high school along with my sister that is 16 months younger than I am.

I am a certified wedding planner and have been for 2 years. I assist Wendee at Lucies Events on a regular basis with her weddings and hope to take on more and more and maybe even some on my own! I really adore it.

I am the oldest child of FIVE! 4 girls and 1 boy. I love love love all 4 of them!

I have a new tradition (inspired by a co-worker) that every year, (starting on my birthday) I take on a new personal hobby. This is the year for me to learn photography. I want to be able to capture everyday life moments. Next year I want to learn how to sew!

five.

My husband and I love remodeling homes. We are living in a remodel right now. We drive around for hours and hours looking at homes in need of TLC and plan out what we would do to fix them up! I am fairly sure we will never buy a new build and wonder if we'll ever settle into a home since we are always searching for the "next" project.

six.

I love to travel! Grant and I plan to travel as much as possible until we have little ones. Travels of this year: Grand Cayman, Maine, Boston, NYC,Vail, LA, and Nashville. Can't wait to plan out our 2010 vacations!

I was born in Austin, Texas and have never lived anywhere else in my life. Sometimes, I get the bug to live somewhere else for a while but, reality is that Austin is my favorite place to be. Like a friend recently said: Austin is the best kept secret in the U.S. I totally agree. Local music, friendly people, hill country around the corner, amazing mexican food and the list could go on...

Jalapeno Cornbread

Grant and I hosted our first dinner party. Guest list to include my sister and her fam, Mom and Dad, Bro and Baby Sis, Grammie and Charlie. In honor of Wursfest yesterday we cooked a German-inspired meal complete with chicken beer brats, jalapeno cornbread and Homemade potato salad. The cornbread went over REALLY well. Thought I would share this SUPER easy recipe.

The Aftermath:

Jalapeño Cornbread

2 eggs, well-beaten
1 package (8 ounce) cream cheese
1 cup cream corn
1 cup cornmeal
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup oil
1/2 cup jalapeños, chopped
1 cup grated cheese

Mix well in order given. Bake at 325° for 45 minutes in an 8 x 8 x 2 pan or loaf pan, 3 5/8 x 7 3/8 inch.

*Note: I wouldn't do quite 2/3 cup of the oil to prevent over-greasiness.

Forever 21 opened up a new location here in Austin at Barton Creek mall. I braved the tween crowd this morning and came away with some pretty satisfactory finds to add to my fall wardrobe.

We've had this Restoration hardware Dressing table/vanity for a few years now and have only just recently had adequate space for it. Decided to bring it in and put it to use! Also, I had been trying to figure out a good way to store/display my fun jewelry. Found this wall hanger at Hobby Lobby for no more than $8. Just right, don't you think?? *First shots with the new cam, btw.*

To complete this dressing area, I would love to find a great stool to re-upholster...thinking zebra, leopard? To be continued...

Fall/ Winter Shopping Wants

Ahhhh. After being so productive this weekend I am so happy to relax on the couch and browse my favorite shopping sites to compile my fall/winter wishlist.

It is my favorite season to shop for you know.

This year I'm thinking simple basics that can be schnazzed up with studs/feathers/jewel tones. Think white/black/gray long tees, leggings, skinny jeans...maybe a tear/rip here and there.

We purchased the Restoration Hardware british can sleigh bed a couple years ago and we currently have it in our guest bedroom and it has been oh so lonely without matching night stands. The coordinating options for our bed were near $1,000 each. I was sure I could complete the set at a fraction. Years later, goal achieved.

We have needed an end table in our living area for quite some time now. When out exploring garage sales this weekend we came across this cute little table, offered $5 for it and voila! It was ours. It needed a little "love" as Grant would put it...

And the final product! It's hard to see in the photo (I need a nice camera and this is my iphone) but, it is antiqued.

Next project: Bedside tables for our guest bedroom.

Texas Football + Weekend Project = Perfection

This project is one that I have been DYING to complete for ummmm, over a year now.

I just had to find the perfect frame for it. I was so thrilled when I came across this amazing antique frame. I had no fore-thought as far as the design was concerned. I just knew it had to be large enough to accomodate the Fall schedule!

Frame down. What next? A chalkboard! Umm, I had no idea that a 4ftx3ft chalk board would run you around $100! So, hubs and I took it upon ourselves to make our own chalk board. Coming in at a much more affordable price of $22 with ply wood and chalk board paint to spare for our next project.

I plan on keeping it current with the sports of the season.

Next on the list: Completing this little guy for our living room. A $5 find at a yard sale this weekend. :)

Back to the real world... For two days anyway.

Well, we had a great weekend getaway to Los Angeles. We enjoyed lots of sushi and shopping time. Tomorrow is back to the real world... for 2 days and then my usual 3-day weekend. Here are some pictures from our getaway!

The shopping wasn't as good as I expected but, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the shopping districts I have always heard about. The food was AMAZING. We really enjoyed Katsuya , Casa Vega, and The Bazaar the most. And I did pick up a couple things while shopping...duh.

Rayban Aviators in brown that I have been searching for ever seeing Andy Roddick's wife Brooklyn Decker sporting them at Wimbledon this summer.

Every Birthday/Christmas/Anniversary my husband has me put together a list of the things that I am wanting the most at the moment. It might seem a tad presumptuous but, he really thinks I am doing him a great service. He can then choose which one he wants to get me! Here is my current wish *dream* list. Have I ever mentioned that I love birthdays??

1.) Louis Vuitton Eva in Damier. I love the versatility that this bag can be a casual across the body for days when you are out shopping maybe and don't want to carry a heavy load. Then it also functions great for a night on the town as a clutch with a handy gold chain for over the shoulder.

2.) David Yurman Rose Quartz large albion ring. Love. love. love.

3.) David Yurman classic blue topaz cable bracelet, 5mm.

My list was super fun to make but, spending next weekend with my Grant is all the gift I really need at the end of the day.

7 days and counting and this is where you will find me... Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. I turn 25 this Wednesday and my sweet husband has planned an amazing getaway to celebrate. Work is going to be so hectic this week as we make a big software switchover for all of our charting. I am so used to a 4-day work week and this week I'll be putting in *gasp* 5 days. With this trip to look forward to, nothing will get to me this week.

I have been meaning to update for months. My blog has missed out on so many important events over the past few months. To name a few:

- AmAZing vacation to NYC to visit a dear friend/Boston/Kennebunkport, Maine over the 4th of July topped off with an appearance from my wonderful brother-in-law (and friend), Tyler.

- The birth of my sweet nephew Jameson William.

- An awesome office trip to Vail, Colorado.

- Moving a lifelong friend and her husband to a new place.

Does anyone else feel like life is passing them by before their eyes? I do. I sometimes wish it would slow down. Grant and I have so much we want to do. see. conquer. and it never feels like there is enough time. 1 1/2 has gone by since we have been married and it feels like mere seconds. I actually find it to be scary.

Staying fit/active is something that is very important in Grant and I's marriage. Whether we are working out together or apart, it is something that we both enjoy. We are always trying new things to spice it up. Lately I have been working out with a personal trainer 2-3x per week and really have been falling down on my cardio in between sessions.

We spent this last weekend relaxing at the coast at my Grandparent's little place on the bay just reading magazines, cooking and napping and I came across this treadmill workout in a Family Circle magazine. The title of the article is "the fastest way to lose weight" and the workout is one that Jackie Warner from Work Out on Bravo uses with her clients. She claims that doing this workout 3x per week brought most clients an average of one pound weight loss per week even with no change in diet. I'm gonna try it and thought you might want to as well! It's only 20 minutes!

Here is the break down:

2 minutes. Incline:15. Speed: 2.8-3.0

2 minutes. Incline: 0. Speed: 4.0-5.0

1 minute. Incline: 0. Speed: 2.8-3.0.

Repeat 3 times.

I had to post an update pic. I spent all day painting the cabinets in the kitchen and wanted to share my progress. I am so so so ready to be living here already. Carpet is getting put in upstairs on Friday and wood floors are arriving within the next 10 days!!!

I spent the weekend in San Antonio celebrating my sister, Emily's 12th birthday and came home to find some SERIOUS work had been done on the house. Yay! Here is a before and after of the kitchen. Not done but, I can see the light!!!!

Well, we made it a whole year! It actually, honestly felt like one week. I guess that means that we did pretty well. Sure we had our adjustments to make to each other but, I would do the whole year all over again just the same. We have really learned a lot about each other and grown to be better people individually and as a couple.

I haven't posted much recently due to the hecticness in our lives. Lindsay's shower went off without a hitch. I have soooo many pictures to post that I will get up soon! The house has been coming along great as well. G and Nick (his bff) raised the ceiling in the kitchen where there was fluorescent lights (sexy, huh?) and replaced with can lighting and lighting mounted underneath the cabinetry....all... wait for it.... on a dimmer! Oh the simple things in life that make me happy. I concur with my BIL's theory that lighting in a home really sets the mood/tone. (probably why having a lighting company at our wedding was so important to me) And last but not least, we left Sunday this week to start our one year anniversary vacation in Grand Cayman! (see pic above of the wonderful Inn) I have been once before for my little sister (Ashleigh)'s wedding and loved it so much I talked G into making a trip! We are currently awaiting the arrival of G's youngest brother (Blake) and Nick who we at the last moment decided MUST join us since they had no plans but to stay home and play video games all Spring Break and we just couldn't leave to paradise with that on our conscience. SO, we had 3 days all to ourselves to relax and be in love and now that they are arriving we are going to PARTY! Many, many pics to come! I promise to have a pina colada FOR you at sunset.

We had *I thought* planned on renting a scaffolding to get the popcorn off of the high ceilings but, when I showed up at the house last night, I saw otherwise. G and Nick (his long-time BFF) decided to build their own. Doesn't this look dangerous??!! They got it done though!

I was supposed to have these up on Monday! Life has once again been crazy this week. Now that all of the moving and such has settled down and most of the home stuff I really am not much help with, I have really gotten back into my gym routine! Man, once you start getting behind and slacking off it doesn't take much to COMPLETELY fall off the wagon. I met with a personal trainer this last week and it totally kicked my rear and made me realize I am not in the shape I want to be in! I'm "on it" now though! I hope to have lowered some numbers when I go in for my update in two weeks. I was also able to spend some quality time with my sweet niece, Lilley this weekend and I enjoyed a much needed Mani/Pedi with my little Sis today. :) Tomorrow I think G and I are going to go on a long bike ride to breakfast and then go shopping for our flooring for the house.

A lot of progress has been made on the house. (No more popcorn ceilings on about 75% of the house, Upstairs and Master has new texture on the ceilings, 75% of the house is primed) It changes daily so look for new updates this week! (We are starting to paint tomorrow!)

I have to add that hubby sent a similar arrangement to MIL (who lost her husband a few years ago). He is so sweet and thoughtful. He sent hers from the florist his father used to send flowers from and signed the card from "the boys". She cried. I'm so glad he takes care of her. :)

We have been busy like Bees!

Well, since my last post the house has changed DRAMATICALLY! We've gone over there every night this week and worked after work! But, the progress is proving our long days/late nights to be totally worth it! *So sorry that I have no photos to update but, I promise I will tomorrow!*

What we did this week:

- Removed deliciously delightful popcorn off all ceilings (outside of the living/kitchen...which is where all of our furniture is temporarily being stored.)

- Taped the upstairs windows and all of the stair railing (thanks to yours truly) to prep for paint

- Primed the entire upstairs! (We invested in our own paint sprayer and boy was it worth it!)

Hopefully, the carpet will go in this weekend [upstairs only]. And the hardwood floors downstairs!

In the midst of this and a full work week, I also coordinated a wedding this weekend (will update with pics once I receive them!) for a great friend. This was my first to do on my own and it was sooo nerve-wracking but, in the end it was a success! Not to mention that it was GORGEOUS! I ran the rehearsal Friday night and took care of every detail on the big day. As I sent her down the aisle, my eyes welled up with tears in happiness for her/the overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. Maybe one day I can start my own company strictly doing weddings. For now, it's just something fun and fulfilling to do when possible. :)

I also sent out the invites for the bridal shower I am single-handedly (and happily so), hosting on March 7th for one of my very best friends! I am so excited for this. It will have a very sophisticated "Breakfast at Tiffany's" feel to it without the overwhelming "themed-ness". The invites read,

"Darlings, In the sprit of the occasion, would you please wear your best 'little black dress' ? Don't forget your utterly fabulous pearls, sparkles and divine costume jewelry!"

Of course this weekend was also V-Day! Grant was so sweet and sent me one dozen pink roses to work on Thursday. (pics above) He used a local florist (even better!) And they were perfect. We also went out to dinner last night to the wonderful restaurant where we hosted our rehearsal dinner for our wedding and had V-Day dinner last year. We were so tired from the wedding and tired of being dressed up, we seriously went out in our sweats! Terrible, I know but, we didn't care. I can't tell you how many strange looks I got.

I ended the weekend with a little retail therapy. I totally deserved it! (pics above) Whew! Can't wait for another crazy week! Until tomorrow night XOXO.

The "New" House.

Well, new to us anyway. Built in 1981. Came with custom painted rooms through out...hot pink, burnt orange, white with free-handed lavender polka dots, etc... Oh, and not to mention the lovely periwinkle shade they decided to paint parts of the brick and the pink-ish maroon on the outside of the house. I (we) see through all of the ugliness straight through to it's potential beauty. Like I mentioned previously, this home was a HUD (I can't say enough how I DO NOT recommend this). It was a steal for the neighborhood (By far the ugliest house in the whole neighborhood) and has GREAT potential to be profitable if we do a lot of the work/the market turns around/we are smart with our renovation spending. The work began immediately. As if my workday wasn't long and stressful enough, I headed right on over to the house to work for 4 hours with Grant and I am oh-so proud to be able to say that the entire upstairs is POPCORN FREE!

You can see in the photo how it just peels right off the ceiling. We actually misted it with water and let it sit for a few minutes, came back with a scraper and voila!

I'm sure you've caught the hit show on at one point or another and maybe you are even nearly as addicted as Grant and I are. Our first endeavor into the world of flipping houses is actually still a work in progress. Let's just say, we took on something quite ambitious for our first attempt. Ahh, lessons to be learned! Leveling the foundation, installing a new roof, adding a second story (by finishing out the attic), and completely re-working the entire floor plan are just a few of the changes we have made on this little gem of a cottage. Here are some basic photos. I look forward to documenting some of the more exciting changes to come this spring! And, if/when we get this thing sold (hopefully this summer), I will even break down the $$$ as if it were the real show. Stay tuned!

An Introduction: A Lil' Bit about us!

Grant and I have been married for almost one year! Our Anniversary is March 8, 2008. I wanted to start this blog to document and share our travels, how we stay active, what we are cooking, all of our home remodeling/renovating adventures, etc.... If you are reading this blog, then you MUST know some of what we are about. But, I will give you an overview just in case.

Grant and I met the summer of my 16th birthday. We had a summer romance that fizzled once August came and I moved south of Austin. 5 years passed, one failed five year relationship (me) and one failed engagement (him) later and we ran into each other on the famous 6th Street in Austin, Texas (Where we are both from, btw). And the rest is history! Love at [second, I suppose] sight! We were engaged nine months later and married eleven months after that!

Our jobs keep us very busy but, that DOES NOT stop us from living life outside of the office! Grant is part-owner of Advanced.1, a family company started by his late father, Clark and his mom, Vicki as a team effort. I manage the clinic of a local Orthodontic Practice.

You will see that our lives do not begin or end here. I hope you find all of our adventures as exciting as we do! I look forward to sharing!
